Can Pain Killers And Penicillin Cause White Layer Around The Penis?

hello, I am a 23 yr old male, 5 8 and weigh 178lbs and it seems that I have the flu. Yesterday, I took to Advil pills because I also had a headache and this morning I noticed that a whitish thin layer had developed around the head of my penis. This is not the first time that this happens, last time I took some pills for pain this occurred as well and last year when I took penicillin I had the same effect on the penis. Does this mean that I have an allergy to medications? What should I do to verify this? Thanks

Hi,

Inflammation of the head of the penis or glans penis is known as balanitis. Whitish thin layer around the head of penis may be a clinical feature of balanitis. It may resulted from fungal or bacterial infections, STIs or sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea, trichomoniasis etc., exposure to irritants or allergic reactions, scabies, diabetes mellitus, reactive arthritis and many more.

It also may resulted from some drugs induced allergic reactions such as some antibiotics like penicillin and some painkillers like ibuprofen. Advil contains ibuprofen that acts as a painkiller. So, balanitis can be resulted from both penicillin and ibuprofen.

As you had history of developing balanitis or same symptoms during taking ibuprofen or penicillin, so both penicillin and ibuprofen may be responsible for causing balanitis. You should stop both ibuprofen and penicillin immediately due to their allergic reactions and inform your doctor first. Your doctor may prescribe another antibiotics and painkiller for you.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

It is unlikely that it is due to the Advil. It sounds a lot like fungal infection. You can get that after taking penicillin. You can get various cream at the pharmacy for fungal infections on the penis. If this have no effect in a couple of weeks, you should se a doctor, and also if it gets worse.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
