Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have high blood that is under control by medication. Yesterday I had dental work done and got a shot of novacaine . Thru the course of the day I felt dizzy but was able to function. I still have that dizzy feeling I still function but I m now getting concerned because it has been since yesterday. P.S. Two weeks ago I had novacaine in the dentist s office and he asked if I had highblood pressure and did something-this week nothing. Will this feeling go away soon?
Novocaine is very safe when used for local anesthesia. Very little of the medication gets absorbed into the blood stream where it can affect the rest of the body. Novocaine is safe to take when you have high blood pressure.
I suspect that your dizziness may be some lightheadedness or vertigo. Hydrating, salt intake, and resting may help lightheadedness. Vertigo is usually caused by Benign Patoxysmal Positional Vertigo and classically worsens with head movement. This usually passes, but you can also try the Brandt-Daroff exercises to see if it will help (instructions are readily found online).
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Timothy Wong, General & Family Physician
