Can Plavix, Taken For 8 Years After Putting Stents Be Stopped Cold Or Be Weaned Off With A Drug?
Had three medicated stents 8 years ago and have been on Plavix ever since. Now I have been told it is okay to stop the medication but I was not informed as to how to discontinue the drug. Is it okay to stop the medication cold or should I be weaned off the drug? Thank you for your advice.

Plavix is an anti platelet drug and the new research has shown that the chances of getting heart attacks and person dying of it are more in first three months after stopping plavix.Under these studies,it is still not clear whether it can be stopped cold turkey or should be weaned gradually.Please ask for clear instruction from your treating doctor regarding these.However there are many cases where nothing happened to people who quit it cold turkey.
