Can Runny Nose, Watery Eyes And Fever Be Signs Of Flu In Children?
My son is 2 1/2 yrs old. He has had a fever since yesterday afternoon. He now is not eating but still will drink juice. He also is complaining that his leg and belly hurts off and on. His last temp taken was 102.6. He also has watery eyes and is coughing on and off. His nose is runny but not stuffy. Tylenol isnt helping his fever although it did yesterday. Could he have the flu?
It looks like your kid has a flu- viral fever. You may give him Tylenol in right dosage (15mg/kg/dose) every 6 hrs. You may also give him tepid sponging with tap water.
Kids when sick do not eat well. But make sure that he drinks well and passes urine atleast 4 to 5 times in a day. To help him with his cold you may give him medications like Cetirizine/ Chlorpheneramine maleate. Steam inhalation will also help. Viral fevers take 4 to 5 days to get okay. If fever does not respond to Tylenol, you may give him Mefenamic acid (Meftal) or Ibuprofen- one or two doses in between.
If fever persists to be high or he is lethargic or he is not drinking well or his urine output is very low, please do not hesitate to take him to the doctor. Hope my answer helps. Wish your son a speedy recovery.
