Can Sleeping Pills/relaxants Be Administered Safely To A Stroke Patient?

Dear Doctor: My father is a stroke patient (1st time) since Feb 21, 2010. He is now 79yrs old, blind and can t move his left side of his body. a lot of times, he would stand up then would fall, good thing my brother is with him, and he doesnt sleep for 48 hrs, so neither of us get to sleep at all. He keeps on talking with no sense at all. I would like to ask if we can give him some meds to calm him down and let him sleep when it s time to sleep at night and naptime. You advise would be a great help. BTW, we are in MNL, Philippines. Thanks a lot! lynn

Hi,

You can give him Xanax, Calmepam or Lorazepam tablet to make him sleep. It is safe and there is no fear from them on your father.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Salah Saad Shoman, Internal Medicine Specialist
