Can Sodium Cause Sudden Increase In Weight During Pregnancy?

Hello, I just went in for a 27 week pregnancy check up. I have never had high blood pressure. My blood pressure was normal with my first pregnancy as well. It has been normal up until today. I was 140 over 75. I average 110-120 over 60-70 in all my other appointments. In addition to the weird increase in BP, I weighed myself this morning and had gained 4 pounds since my last check-up at 23 weeks. I got on the scale at the Dr's office 4 hours later and it registered that I had gained 7 pounds.... I did have a Quiznos sub sandwich the hour before my appointment. Could the sodium have caused this weird spike?

Hello
Welcome to HCM
Thanks for posting your query. I understand your concerns. Your history is suggesting that you are prone to develop pregnancy induced hypertension.

It's more common after 20week of pregnancy. It need not be present in earlier pregnancy. Definitely sodium intake increases the bloody pressure. So keep a check on your daily sodium intake.

Take regular BP recordings. If it's persistently on the higher side you need to take antihypertensive.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you
