Can Soreness In Head Caused By A Head Injury In A Child Prove To Be Fatal?

My son fell backwards down stairs at lunch time and hit back of his head. He cried but calmed down. I applied ice pack for 16 mins. We had some quiet time watching a film and two hours later he slept for 30 mins. In the afternoon he ran around playing. He went to bed as normal but woke up 1 hour ago saying his head was sore. There is no bump. The fall happened 12 hours ago and he has gone back to sleep? Should I wake him every few hours to check on him? We didn't take him to hospital but he is moaning every now and again in his sleep ? I didn't give him any pain killer because I thought it could mask if there was a head injury? Should I just leave him sleeping? Or should I take him to doctor in morning ?

Hi,

Since there is no history of vomiting, convulsions, blurring of vision, loss of consciousness, any weakness or severe head ache, there wont be any damage to brain that needs emergency management.
You can give him pain killer like NSAID (acetaminophen) for pain and if any symptoms develops or if the pain does not subside in another day then you need to consult your doctor for examination once. No need to wake him every hours, but keep observing him.

Regards
