Can Steroids And Antibiotics Cause Delayed Periods?

I had tonsillitis last week and have been taking an antibiotic and a steroid. I am on birth control and have had unprotected sex a few times. I took a pregnancy test after the first day of my late period and it said negative, but I still haven t gotten my period.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM!

No, antibiotics and steroids do not cause delayed periods. Unless your drug contained hormones like Estrogen, Progesterone, FSH and LH, it is unlikely to affect your periods.

Periods are often known to be irregular at times, specially if you had past history of irregular periods.
Wait for few days as your period might come.

Also, repeat your pregnancy test after few days.

Hope this information helps. Feel free to ask if you have any doubt.

With warm regards,
Dr. Sridhar
