Can Stiff Neck And Shoulder Cause Sharp Pain Below Jaw Line?

I experience quite sharp pain when pressing lightly on the left hand side of my neck, just below the jaw line [where you might take a pulse].Could this be connected to the stiff neck and shoulder I've had since playing golf a few weeks ago or is this coincidental? I have been treating the shoulder and neck with ibuprofin and it has eased considerably. This touch tenderness is a recent development. I am 63years old,72kg and have rarely had need to visit a doctor .
