Can Stopping Contraceptive Pills Cause Delayed Periods And Abdominal Discomfort?

Hi, I started the taking the pill as form of contraceptive, after starting the pill I had a very light period and then after just brown discharge. This went on for a few days. Followed by nausea . I then stopped taking the pill a day before I was supposed to ovulate. My period is now late . Could this be because I stopped using the rx ? Ive been having abdominal discomfort and headaches too.

Hi.

I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

Your symptoms may be due to the pills your are taking. Actually birth control or contraceptive pills are advantageous with few side effects .

It includes Spotting inbetween periods or changes in menstrual cycle, Breast swelling or tenderness,
weight gain, Stomach upset, Mood changes, headaches, migraine etc.

Usually, these side effects will reduce within few months of taking tablets. As you have stopped it now, it's better to consult your gynaecologist for help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Get well soon.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
