Can Swelling Be Caused Due To Pulling Of Facial Muscle?

I popped my jaw yesterday while yawning. Immediately afterwards the right side of my face swelled like a golf ball. After a few hours it went down. As I was eatting dinner it swelled again and I iced it til it went down. Is it possible to pull a face muscle. It does not hurt but increases in size as I eat. Doesn t do it while I talk.

Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of a chronic luxation of the TMJ. For this reason, I recommend consulting with your dentist or a maxilofaxial surgeon for a physical exam and performing an X-ray of the TMJ.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
