Can Swelling Of Foot Due To Injury Lead To Fever?

Hi, my elderly mom (92 yrs) bumped her foot on a chair while getting out of it. She appeared fine and walked on it the rest of the evening with no complaints. The next morning her foot was swollen and she said she had a slight fever and thought she was coming down with something. Today, her foot is still swollen and she s been in bed all day, not feverish. Nothing hurts, but she says she feel weird. I live 2 hrs away so it s hard for me to go look at it.

It would be best if she could get someone to take her to her doctor or to urgent care to look at this. It needs to be looked at to see what's going on. Perhaps she broke something or caused an infection from the bump. Swelling and fever are always concerning because they can indicate an infection. She might also have a blood clot. If she is feeling so off that she's staying in bed all day, I would be concerned that something significant is developing and a doctor needs to look at this. See if you can get someone to bring her to a doctor if you can't get there. You might be able to get some help from senior assistance organizations in her area, or even have an ambulance take her if she is really having a lot of problems. Hope this helps.
