Can Taking High Dose Of Norvasc Cause Shortness Of Breath?
Hi I have been experiencing shortness of breath since a severe virus in jan 18. I am 69 and otherwise basicly healthy except for hi blood pressure for which I am being treated. I am sitting in the er waiting for a diagnosis of this problem. They did an ekg which was normal ox 100% and bp normal. What wd be a probable cause of severe shortness of breath here? The doc just last week increased my norvasc generic to 10 from 5mg. Am I overdosing possibly or is this a blockage or other possibe heart failure issue?
Breathlessness is one of the known side effects of Norvasc (Amlodipine). It is possible that the viral infection may have been due to viruses which also depress the contractility of the heart muscle.
This along with the use of amlodipine would precipitate the breathlessness. It would be advisable to have an echocardiogram and check the ejection fraction and contractility of the heart. You are likely to feel better with a change of medicines. Do get back to me if you have further queries.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
