Can The Cold Medicine Keep The Child Awake?

My child is 7 yrs old and has had a bad cough/cold. he has asthmatic tendencies and his doctor prescribed hyd polst-chlor po l for his cough. he is not coughing, but had his meds 3 hrs ago at his bedtime and is just now about to fall asleep. can this be keeping him awake

On the contrary cold medicine generally causes sedation.
It might be due to uneasiness due to cold, cough , he is awake.
