Can The Solid Food Supplements Be Given To The Seven Month Old?
Hi ,
Please note that my daughter Meghna Paul , aged seven months is a premature baby born at 27 wks of gestation . Birth weight 800gms only . Current weight 4 kgs 800 gms . She is having only Enfapro A+ Follow up Formula ( mfd by Mead Johnson Formula ) as per the prescription of the pediatric . No Mothers milk since birth except a negligible amount at initial phase. At present no mothers milk .
Pediatric has prescribed for regular foods like rice , vegetables , froots as per the indian food habits .
Concern :
1. Having only Enfapro milk throught the day 120ml in one go ( time taken 30 minutes ) for 7 to 8 times in a time span of 24 hrs .
2. Apart from the above having only a little rice 3 to 4 table spoons .
Question : Recently relocated from Kolkata to Bangalore ,India ( 4 days ) . Most unwilling to take any solid food like rice & quantity of milk intake reduced .
Can we give her any solid food supplement like Cerelac etc and if yes in what quantity & in what frequancy . Other than this , she has no other health issue right now .

Hi..Feeding problems are the major problems in premature babies. Why there is no breast milk given at any point of time? It is the best nutrient. Now at this age if the baby has no other health issues you can start home based thickened feeds like rice moong dal gruel with ghee or porridge or chapati mashed in milk or boiled potatoes mashed in milk. This should be given 1 katori 3 to 4 times a day. Initially the baby may take little but you should increase the quantity gradually. Please let me know if you need more information on this.
