Can They Treat The Inflammed Gum With Something Topical?
I was started on wellbutrin a week ago for zero dopamine levels done by blood draw. Only on 150 mg. woke up this am with left facial swelling, gums reddened indicative of a sever periodontitis. I didn't realize until now that it could be the wellbutrin. i called my psych doc and left him a msg. I called my dentist who is open tomorrow. Can they treat the inflamed gum with something topical? atb and or something to decrease the inflammation? My face just seems to be getting more swollen..... I have done ibuprofen, orajel mouthwash for canker sores, gum disease, benzocaine. I have brushed them and they bleed so much. I just don't know what else I can do tonight?

Hello, Thanks for your query. There are several ways to treat gum inflammation. Swishing salt water in your mouth can help eliminate the bacteria that may be cause the inflammation, and be sure use warm water. Another temporary remedy is benzocane, which is an ointment that can treat the pain of gum inflammation. Take anti-inflammatory medicines that help to reduce overall swelling and pain. Also, massage your gums gently with a soft toothbrush. If none of these remedies eliminates your swelling for good, schedule a dentist appointment for further information and diagnosis. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
Better first thing you should do is to discontinue the drug. In case of inflammation of gums, oral prophylaxis is done which will relieve the symptoms and even you should start with vitamin C which will help in reducing the swelling of the gums.
And if you are also having canker sores then you should start with some topical anesthetic gels like mucopain.
So you should visit your dentist to get oral prophylaxis done and get relieved from the symptoms.
Hope it will help you.
