Well, thickness of tongue can be felt in 2 cases, one is if the tongue is really swollen and thickened and secondly if the tongue has become numb due to some reason then it can cause a thick feeling of tongue.
Both the reasons can cause stuttering or difficulty in pronouncing certain words. So, my suggestion is to once consult a General Physician or an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated.
The exact cause needs to be ruled out like if it is swollen then it can be due to allergy or side effect of any medication or some other causes of thickening of tongue like Amyloidosis or thyroid problem.
At times, stuttering can be due to neurological causes. So, once the exact diagnosis is made treatment can be done accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
