Can Wearing Rubber Boots Affect Eyes In Children?

My mother yelled at me for letting my son wear rubber boots to school all day. She said "When she was a kids her mom told her that wearing rubber boots all day at school was BAD for your eyes." My mother is 77 years old. Is this true or just a old wives tale? I think she is nuts.
Thank you

Hello,
Wearing rubber boots will not affect a child's sight, as far as I know. Wearing shoes and boots that fit well and that do not accumulate excessive fluid around a foot is important. School age children should avoid excessive T.V. and computer time ( generally no more than 2 hours). There are studies that indicate playing outdoors may lead to better vision in children. One theory is that they focus near and far while playing outdoors and this improves their sight. Please check with a pediatric optometrist or pediatrician if there are problems with your child's vision.
