Can You Get Fever With A Head Injury?

My 6 year old bumped his head earlier..Was fine for a couple of hours and then said he was light headed..He layed down and slept for awhile, but developed a fever and headache..He s feeling better now after a nap and bath..Could this be a virus or a result of the bump..Can you get fever with a head injury? Just wondering if I should take him to the hospital?

Hi... can you please provide few details? Did the child become unconscious after head injury? Was there associated projectile vomitting after this event? Is there any obvious swelling? If the child was normal after the injury then you can observe the child at home. Fever can be associated with swelling and inflammation. Use ice pack application if swelling is there. If the swelling increases or if the child has severe headache or altered behavior then you should consult a doctor.
