Child. High Temperature, Stomach Pain , Sore Mouth, Pale Skin, Fatigue, Increased Thirst. Normal Appetite. Urine Test Showed High Ketones. Diabetes?
My 4 yr old daughter has had a high temperature of between 38.5-39.6 for 5 days. Dr checked usual things and said everything ok perhaps a virus - I went bk today and they tested her urine and said no sign of infection but she mustn't b eating or drinking as she had high ketones. But she has been eating and drinking?? She is not dehydrated or starving?? They have given anti biotic days a precaution but I'm beginning to wonder if its diabetes as she goes very tired all of a sudden and has a much greater thirst - she's not running to the bathroom though. She looks very pale - today within an hour of paracetemol her temp shot up to 39.6 (this is day 5) Only thing she's complained of are pains in her tummy - and a sore mouth at times. Thanks x

Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Presence of ketones in urine is suggestive of starving or diabetes. Continue the medication as advise by her pediatrician. I advise you to go for further investigations like blood sugar, urine for sugar to rule out the hyperglycemia associated with diabetes. Thirst, paleness, and stomach pain may be because of viral infection with fever, or it could be due to the presentation of diabetes. Therefore I advise you to go for further evaluation after discussing with the pediatrician. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
