Child. Loose, Painful, Acidic Frequent Stools, Bouts Of Diaper Rash. History Of Ileocincal Valve Removal, Illeostomy, Reconnection Of Bowel. Help
My 18 month old daughter had her ileocincal valve removed during emergency repair surgery immediately after birth due to complications from gastroschisis. She had an illeostomy for the first three months & her bowel was successfully reconnected. Since then, she suffers greatly from painful, loose, acidic, & frequent (10-12x daily) bowel movements & subsequent severe bouts of diaper rash. She is seemingly healthy in every other way. Is there any way to replace the valve? She suffers greatly & it breaks our heart every day to see our precious, joyful angel endure such pain while we are helpless. Any suggestions or advice would be very appreciated. Sincerely, Caroline
I can understand your dilemma. However there is no procedure of replacing the ileocaecal valve.
It is very unusual for gastrochisis to lead to ileostomy. You have not specified the complications of gastrochisis. Yes, if a part of ileum has been resected then there is frequency of motion which can be controlled to some extent by modifying the diet.
To control the diaper rash you can apply bland ointment or oil in the perineal area and change the diapers more frequently.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
