Child. Red Rash On Bottom, Behind Knee Caps, Thigs, Elbows. No Itching Or Pain. Dead Peeling Skin After Applying Creams. Advice

My daughter is 4.5 years old, and she has a red rash on her bottom, behind her knee-caps on her legs, the thighs, and on her elbows and the crease of her arms.. It doesn't itch her, but it does have heat inside it. Any scented lotion aggravates the rash and causes it to spread. She doesn't complain of any pain with the rash. I put vitamin E cream on it or Vaseline, which over night minimizes the rash, and then turns it into dead skin, and peels off. Leaving a white skin, with no pigment in it. Please help! Shes getting older and it doesn't seem to be going away.

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

It seems she is developing contact or irritant dermatitis to scented lotion application.

I advise you to avoid applying these type of lotions.

Apply calamine lotion over the rash for soothing effect.

Give an oral antihistamine like cetirizine or hydroxyzine in prescribed dose.

Consult the dermatologist for examination and specific treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
