Child. Red, Swollen, Bleeding Gums With White Spots Around Front Teeth, No Appetite, Fussy. Suggest
MY daughter is 17 mos and has only the front 4 teeth. For the past week shes been fussy, wakeful, her gums around her teeth are red and swolen, bleeding when I try to clean it, and extremely painful. She normally eats a lot and she has no appetite now and is very irritable. I noticed today some white spots on her gums. What can this be?
Red, swollen and bleeding gums indicate that she has infection of the gums or what is known as "gingivitis". This is usually caused by the ever-present germs in the mouth, and needs attention of the oral surgeon/dentist. Please take her to one of these specialists, or, at the very least, to her pediatrician so that he/she may prescribe antibiotics, pain killers and offer general advice on dental and gum hygiene for the future.
