Child. Severe Dry Cough Followed By Vomiting At Night. Diagnosed Allergic Asthma. Reason?
My son is 6 yrs old and is having severe cough from the age of 3. We took him to several pediatricians and they advised that he is suffering from allergic asthma and he will overcome this problem when he grows up. Last year we moved to overseas and his attack has reduced considerably and nowadays sometimes he has dry cough in the night followed by vomiting especially when he eats foods which shall trigger asthma. After vomting he sleeps without any problem. Could you please advice the reason for this?
Hello,
Thanks for posting the question to H.C.M.Forum.
There is a membrane between thorax and abdomen known as diaphragm.
When some one eats something it is bound that volume in stomach will increase and it will dilate due to food.
Dilatation of stomach will press diaphragm upwards , hence there will be pressure over lung of that side , so there will be cough ( in asthmatic patient the lung capacity is already less so bound to develop cough), when vomits than pressure will release and patient feel relaxed( cough become alright due to vomits).
So I hope you get reply of your query.
Good luck

The vomiting after cough is called posttussive vomiting and it is due to pressure on vomiting center which is present near to cough center in the brain.
And some times the mucus generated by cough will be swallowed and this causes invitation in the stomach leading to vomitings.
For cough he needs physical examination by his pediatrician and prescription of appropriate medication.
