Child Been Sick, Having Pain In Stomach, Vomits, Tests, Blood Work Normal. Reason?
My son is 11 and for the last year he gets sick once a week. It starts with him feels very tired, where he needs to go to bed. This lasts for 2-3 hours. Then pain sets in, in his stomach and he then vomits for about 6 hours (every 45 minutes). The next morning he is fine. This it torture to him but he s had an mri, ekg, eeg (sleepstudy), upper gi with biopsies, and all these tests are normal, along with is blood work. Any ideas? Please don t say cyclic vomiting because I m not a believer. He was fine a year ago. What should we ask the doctor tomorrow?
hi, Thanks for asking query on health care magic. Probably he is suffering from Amoebic colitis. This requires stool examination for Amoebic cysts and vegetative forms. This has to be done repeatedly as it is difficult to find Amoebic cysts with single examination .Some times concentrated methods are required for detecting Amoebic cysts. This is a water borne infection usually occurs by eating outside stuff like fast foods. Your doctor will tell you about treatment when the diagnosis is confirmed. Even if it not confirmed a trial with metronidazole is worth trying. Hope this answer will serve your purpose. I shall be happy to answer any more queries. Take care. Dr.M.V.Subrahmanyam
