Child Experiencing Excessive Thirst, Tiredness, Irritabiity. Family History Of Heart Issues. What Could It Be?
hey, my son has red puffy eyes, this doesn't look like allergies to me, he looks horrible and its an on and off thing for about the past month... he also has been excessively thirsty and will drink an entire sippy cup within moments and screams until you get him more (he drinks at least a gallon and a half of juice/water per day)... he seems really tired and really irritable. His older brother was born with a severe coarchtation, a large VSD and ASD as well as a bicuspid aeotic valve and had surgeries to correct all except the valve. my youngest has been checked by a cardiologist (at 1 month old) and seemed to be fine, but has not been checked again - not saying it is heart related, but I did want to put that family history out there.
I am so sorry to hear this excessive thirst and the puffy eyes that your child has. Excessive thirst always raises the concern of possible diabetes. Please, also find out if the child urinates ore often than usual and in larger volumes. A rapid blood sugar test would be able to tell whether this is the cause or not.
In any case, I will suggest that you get this child consulted and the possible cause of these conditions identified and managed adequately.
I wish you well.I hope you find this information useful. thank you so much for using our services and feel free to request for more information if needed. Thanks. Dr. Ditah, MD.
