Child Had Fever, Throat Infection. Took Antibiotics. Had Tongue Thrush. Stopped Taking Solid Food, Decreased Milk Intake. Suggestions?
Dear Doctor, I have a daughter who is 23 months old & weighs around 14 kgs. Till last month I had no issues with her eating habits...she would readily eat dal rice, cerelac, egg, chicken...etc. However last month she had fever & throat infection. I took her to the doctor, he suggested clampkid. I gave her the medicines she took them for 2 days however later she vomitted everytime i fed her medicine (she gets hysterical even now when I have to give her medicines or vitamins ...sometimes she throws up also). Ultimately her fever & infection went away in 5 dayz...however she developed severe tongue thrush due to antibotic...she would eat nothing as it gave her a burning sensation. So i took her to the Doctor again, this time he prescribed Sucral. Again she did not drink it & gave us a very tough time. Now its been around a month, she does not eat her old food (solid) her milk intake has also decreased a bit, she was only eating some boiledd egg & chicken last month however even that she is not accepting these days....I have tried different variety of food but nothing works. Her weight has not changed much, however i am distressed now that its been more than a month...is their anything concerning, should I see a doctor or is this just a phase how long will this continue? Also could you guide me how to fed medicines to baby who is prone to vomitting. Please advise me...I would be very thankful for your time & your help. My email address is YYYY@YYYY . Do not worry! Give her some more time to recover.Give juices,fruits,sweets and rice dhal etc,one by one again - keep trying !
She will be back to normal soon in another 2 weeks time.
Now give her what she wants after diverting her attention.
Reg medicines,you can not help - only you can choose good tasting alternatives ,follow with a sweet or chocolate if she likes after the medicine!!

Tongue thrush is due to fungal infection and it should be treated by local anti fungal cream application.
As the growth rate decrease from the end of first year, the appetite will decrease in parallel to the decreased growth rate and they become fussy to eat.
Don't force her to eat but try these :
1. Two spoon method, one to the child and another to the mother
2. Finger foods
3. High chair with a plank at dining table
By this their their autonomy is being accepted and they try to imitate adults and they eat.

oral thrush can be due to fungal infection.
Apply nystatin 2 to 3 times a day.
Give her plenty of fluids,fruit juices,lemonade,curd,rice porridge.
Give her multivitamin syrup (vit c and b complex)
Do not give medicine in lying position also give it in small volumes.
Regarding weight,rate of increase of growth decreases after one year.
Your child will be fine.

how is her thrush now
if that subsided...........not much of a concern if the problem remains for few days............as children have varied appetite day to day......some times they eat ok and few days they refuse to eat......it should be that over a period of time their feeding should be normal and they should consume the required calories and nutrients........you are also saying that weight loss is not there........
post infection and fever there could be temporary loss of weight
but if it is associated with some other problem........like say yellow discoloration of eyes, vomitings etc or if the symptoms persist.........pl get a pediatric consultation
