Child Has A Stuffy Nose, Cough, Fever. Fever Raises In Night. On Ibuprofen. Have To Consult A Pediatrician?

My four year old daughter has a stuffy nose, cough, and has had a fever since Tuesday. The fever has ranged from 99.5 to 101.5 except this morning it is 103.1 (oral temp). The fever goes away during the day but seems to come back during the night time and early morning. I have been giving her children's ibuprofen for relief but I am not sure if I need to take her in to see her pediatirician.

Hello dear,

All these symptoms suggest that your child might be suffering from upper respiratory tract infection(most probably viral infection)

The management consists of:
1. Drinking of warm fluids.
2. Antihistamines to provide symptomatic relief from cold & cough.
3. Nasal decongestants to relieve obstruction.
4. Analgesics to take care of pain & fever.

Ibuprofen being an analgesic can only provide relief from fever but not from cold and cough.
So...it will be better to consult the pediatrician & start treatment.
