Child Has Bump On Temple, Purple And Swollen After A Fall, Speed Is Fine. What Should Be Done?

My daughter, 2yo, just tripped and fell. She has a good goose egg right on her temple near the eye. It is purple and swelled out. Her eyes are fine. Still has whites of her eyes, no blood or redness. Pupils are normal and both react to a flashlight the same appropriate way. Speech is fine. We have WellCare, so Hospital and medicine would be free. However, right now the hospital is jam packed with flu patients. I have a 6 month old who has no vaccine yet so any trip to the hospital is a dangerous proposition. What should we do?

Thanks for your query.
There is hematoma formation on her temple near eye. I appreciate your observation .
I advise you to apply ice compress on injury site,give her paracetamol for pain and observe for any warning signs that is. any bleeding from ear,nose,vomiting,any abnormal behavior.
In case you observe any take her to doctor.

Your child will be fine.

Hi,
Thank you for your query,
Your child developed contusion due to trauma because of collection of blood on her temple.
Look for danger signs like vomitings, altered behavior, bleeding from nose or ears, seizures or decreased movements of limbs.
Observe for first 24 hours for any abnormal findings and report immediately to your Doctor or Emergency if you find any.
Give Tylenol for pain relief.

Hello I have gone through your complaints. The face will be having loose subcutaneous tissue. Any mild injury will lead to blood collection in the subcutaneous plane which will lead to swelling . If the swelling is not associated with vomiting or irritability then you can wait. It may take 2 to 3 weeks for the swelling to subside.
