Child Has Calf Injury, Swollen Leg. MRI Shows Hematoma. Thoughts?

My 18 yr old son had football injury three weeks ago (20 days) where helmets/people hit into calf . Lower leg still swollen slightly but he cannot bear weight or put even slightest pressure on toes/foot. MRI revealed hematoma . Ortho and therapist cannot understand why it has not dispursed yet since he has been going to daily therapy but say once pooled blood moves, that he will feel significantly better and then be able to stand/walk on leg and eventually play sports again. Thoughts? Want to get this poor kid off his crutches. Thanks

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
Hematoma will take time to resolve.
But any underlying fracture has to be ruled out by doing an x ray of that part which may be the cause for persistence of pain and swelling.
You can give ibuprofen in prescribed dose for pain.
Consult the orthopaedic doctor for follow up.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
