Child Has Cold. Strep Positive. Prescribed Azithromycin. How Long For Fever To Break?

My 5 year old daughter has been fighting a cold/infection for the last 4 days. The first test was streep throat was negative and the second one today was positive. The doctor prescribed Azithromycin 200mg/5ml and I wanted to know how long will it take with new medication for her fever to break. She took her first full dose today and her temp has ranged from 99-101.5.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Continue the medication as advised by the pediatrician for streptococcal throat infection.

Fever will usually take 48 to 72 hours to respond to the antibiotics in upper respiratory tract infections.

Monitor her temperature daily at regular intervals.

Continue Tylenol in prescribed dose if there is fever.

If the fever is not responded to the antibiotic therapy even after 72 hours, consult the pediatrician again for re examination of the child and for basic investigations if required.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
