My 3 yr old had a cold a bout 3 weeks ago and she has had the cough ever since. Last week she vomited first thing in the morning on 2 days. She didnt vomit again or act sick until about 2 days now with vomiting and extreme diarrhea. Her cough remains and triggers her vomiting. There had been no fever until today. Day 2. Fever slight. She wont eat or drink. Im having a very hard time. I called the.doctor and they say to wait 3 to 5 days. She cant go that long with dry diapers and not eating. Please help us.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi
any child not eating and dry diapers is likely to be medical emergency.Do not sit at home visit a doctorto rule out dehydration..vomiting and loose stools can worsen dehydration.
Cough following a cold episode may last more than 2 weeks.. as that may be time for recovery of airway epithelium.

Also vomiting is a sign of bronchospasm especially early morning. Your doctor likely to add a bronchodilator cough syrup too.

Pediatrician Dr. Balaji Chinnasami's  Response
Hi dear,
Looks like your daughter is suffering from viral illness. Usually it will resolve on its own in few days. But she should be hydrating herself with good liquids like milk, juices. If she is not taking anything, not passing urine frequently, she is vomiting everything she is taking, then she needs to be taken to the hospital. She will become even more dehydrated. Just try giving her fluids and if its not possible, call back to the hospital and explain the situation in detail. Don't worry she will be alright.

Take care
