Child Has Cough, Vomiting, Gagging. Difficulty Doing Neb Treatment. Asthma Related Symptoms?

Hi. My daughter has had a cough for several days, but this morning when she woke up, she couldn't stop coughing. She was coughing so hard she was gagging & vomited mucus several times. It was so bad I had a hard time getting her to do her neb treatment. It took 2 back to back treatments to settle her down. Does this seem strictly asthma related?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

There are many causes of cough from simple upper respiratory infection to asthma variants.

The vomiting is due to profuse coughing which is common in children after a bout of cough and it is known as Posttussive vomiting.

Is there any history of asthma in child?

Is there any wheezing at present?

Physical examination is important to see the throat and examine lungs for any wheezing.

Consult your Pediatrician for the examination and appropriate treatment for her cough.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
