Child Has Dry Patches On Armpits, Back Of Neck And Chest. Taken Canext And Antibiotics. Treatment?

Hi, My son is 4 and has developed dry patches on his armpits,at the back of his neck and 1 on his chest,they appear randomly and out of nowhere,the Dr said they are caused by a fungal infection, but I want to know what exactly are they and how can I treat them, He gave him a canexT ointment and some antibiotics but they didn't help
