Child Has Fever. On Dolo Suspension. Temperature Is Oscillating. Do Sponging For Bringing Down The Temperature. Any Dangerous Fever?

Hi My son is 9 months old. He has fever for past two days. We gave dolo suspension 0.5 ml every 4-6 hrs. Fever comes every 3-4 hours. Temperature oscillates between 98 - 102.2; When it crosses 102 we sponge his body with normal water and that brings down the temperature. Doctor suggested MEFTAL-P now.
Do we need to do any blood test / lab test to find out the root cause of this fever? How can I ensure that its not any dangerous type of fevers that are spreading in this season ?

Thanks for your advice!

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

Before all fever of unknown origin it is always very important for the doctor to investigate on the cause and treat (as there is always an underlying cause mostly infection). First of all you need to get the child to a pediatrician or if you prefer your present doctor it is still fine. Your child will need to undergo complete physical exams (including otoscopy exams), blood tests such as CBC, CRP, urinalysis, malaria test (if in endemic zone), serum chemistry, blood cultures etc
Doctor has to rule out viral infections, rheumatic diseases (e.g juvenile rheumatoid arthritis), parasitic blood infections, tumors, endocarditis, hepatobiliary infections etc etc.
Ones the cause is determined, the appropriate treatment will be provided by his doctor. The present treatment he is having Dolo suspension and meftal-P are only for treatment of fever and not the cause.

Hope this helps
