Child Has Fever, Leg Discomfort. Done Blood Work. What Is It?

My 2 year old son has been waking up screaming the past month or so not wanting to walk on his right leg, last night he woke up twice not wantin me to touch it and he woke this morning doin the same thing runnin 100 fever , went to the dr and his blood work showed his WBC was 16.5. He doesn t have a cold . I ve pretty much freaked myself out lookin online sayin it cold be leukemia . Dr says if temp rises come bacl

Thank you for your query.

The total WBC count of 16,500/cu mm. is certainly very high. As you have not mentioned the differential count I presume the neutrophils must be raised. The counts and the description suggests an infective process in the right leg. I suggest you discuss with the doctor and start a course of antibiotic pending further investigations.

The counts are not suggestive of leukemia as feared by you.
