Child Has Flexible Legs, Shaky, Rounded Feet. How To Make Him Walk On His Own?

Hi. I am a foster parent of an 18 month old boy. He spent 12 1/2 months sitting in a crib. He has learned (since living here)to pull up on furniture but is very shaky. He cries when he is made to walk. His feet are rounded on the bottom, very fat. His left leg and foot turn out. Both legs are VERY flexible. His pediatrician said he is worried but still gives him two months to walk on his own. The child isn t interested in what I consider to be normal activities for a child his age, perhaps because he never did them. He has therapy twice a month and the ideas are good but only go so far. I think he has low muscle tone but no one has said as much. Do you have suggestions on how to proceed to get him to walk on his own. I found out that his mothers other children had problems walking too but I am not privy to that info. Thanks

thanku for your query,
Well i understand your concern. Normally a baby starts walking with support 10 to 12mths and without support around 12 to 15mths,stands with support around 10mths and without support should be by 13mths.Now as u said he is 18mths, is not able to stand independently , and has shaky limbs with legs very flexible, low msl tone, flat feet, and left foot is turned out . After reviewing all this it seems you need a orthopedic reference ,who will rule out flat foot, congenital talipes equinus varus in which foot is turned out. He has low muscle tone of leg probably because the baby is not using them much and flexibility of joints has to be assessed properly.
Also how are the other milestone like speech, and social development.
He needs to examined by orthopedician who will tell the basic diagnosis and accordingly managment and physiotherapy.
I hope i have answered your query,
God Bless
Dr Aarti
