Child Has Hydronephrosis Grade E. Done Pyeloplasty. After How Long Should Follow Up Be Done?

Hi, My son at the age of 11 years was diagnosed with severe hydronephrosis grade 3 in Right kidney and got operated for open pyeloplasty @ UPJ obstruction in the year 2009. since then one DTPA was done which showed slow drainage started in rt. kidney. His nephrologist does a regular follow up mostly routine urine exam, creatinine, and some times Ultrasonography of all the organs which shows always normal. now almost four years have passed since surgery was done, my question is that how long shall the boy be followed up, what precautions should be followed, can he live a normal life and with normal left kidney and all else normal apart from Right kidney which was badly damaged ? for diet and fluids, sports etc, please suggest. Physically he is growing normally... Thanks

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Your son should lead a normal life. With only one functional kidney an individual should lead an absolutely normal life and should not have the feeling that he cannot perform as a normal individual. The doctor is doing a regular follow-up to know the status.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son all the best.

Regards,
