Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
Valparin usually given for 2 to 3 years and if there are no seizures during this period, then the doctor will advise you to decrease the dose gradually and will stop.
Valparin should not be stopped suddenly, but its dose should be tapered gradually and if there are no seizures during this period, then it can be stopped.
This complete period should be supervised by the doctor.
Side effects are there, but they can be managed with regular follow up and monitoring of liver function tests at regular intervals.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.

Hi Dear

Welcome to the platform of Health Care Magic.

Valporic Acid is a must drug for the patients of seizures activity.
No doubt every drug has got one or the other side effects. same is with valporin also.

Weight Gain and some gastric problem like dyspepsia are quite common.
Occasionally sudden severe liver derangement may occur which should be regularly monitored by LFT.
Some time blood forming cells(bone Marrow) are also deranged just after starting the medicine.
Some minor problems like tremors etc may also occur.

Hope the query is answered.

Thanks

hello dear,
thanks for your query at health care magic,
do not stop anti convulsant drug like valproic acid suddenly. get child proper neurological examination done. you have taper drug slowly and stop using it.
if you suddenly stop using drug your child may have convulsions.
yes , there are side effects on long term usage of the drug .
but its balancing act between benefits of drug in stopping seizures versus its side effects.
thank you.
