Child Has Swollen Bump On Jawline, No Relief With Antibiotics. What Could It Be?

My two year old son has a sudden swollen bump on his jawline. It has been there for 4 days that I m aware of, and he has been taking antibiotics , but isn t getting better. When I took him to the ER they said it was most likely swollen lymph nodes or salivary glands, but his pediatrician today said she wasn t sure it was either of those. What else could it be? please help. Thank you.

hi

Thanks for your query

i can feel your concerns

swollen bump on jawline can be because of many reasons.enlarged lymph node due to infection of mouyh or sorethroat is most common.does your child has sorethroat or any infection?it is usualy associated with fever and pain.abscess can be another possibiity
does he has any history of trauma to that area?
malignancy should also be ruled out if it is not responding to treatment
i advise you to have a fine needle aspiration cytology of bump to determine it's exact cause and treatment accordingly
Hope i have ansewered your query

wishing him good health

regards
