Child Has Unilateral UPJ. Are There Chances For Conservative Treatment?
My son was diagnosed with Unilateral UPJ - right side prior to birth. His ultrasound scan in the 1st week after birth revealed APD of 24mm . In the 6th week scan , the APD measurement came out to be 37mm. I am really worried. Still are there chances for conservative treatment. His report says moderate dilation of calcyces with disproportinate dilation of renal pelvis and parenchymal thinning.
Antenatal diagnosis of renal issues in a fetus need to be followed up post-natally which you are doing so well. As the calyces are moderately dilated with disproportionate dilatation of renal pelvis and parenchymal thinning the infant should be followed up by an pediatric nephrologist. There should be some obstruction distally which is giving rise to such a finding and the pediatric nephrologist shall work up to find the cause and treat it accordingly.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
