Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello,i have a question bout my grandson who is 14 months old. They say he has a hernia.his belly button does stick out wont stay in when you push on it not for long it pops back out and his belly looks more round and it looks like it protruds more on the left side he dosent seem to have discomfort as far as i can see.He eats well and has normal body fluid function can you give me more info on what you think? the doctors he has said it got bigger but no one did xrays or ultrasounds thank you martha
I am so sorry to hear about this hernia. This is umbilical hernia and it is relatively common in children. Because of the size, the risk of this hernia developing complications lie strangulation, obstruction, incarceration, etc. This increase ca be well assessed by simple examination without the need of an ultrasound. You can actually feel the opening by inserting your hand into the opening.
I don't think there is an emergency to get this addressed now but I will strongly recommend that you follow up with your doctors and get it planned for repair when convenient.
I hope this addresses your query fully. Feel free to ask for clarifications and more information if need be. I wish you well. Thanks for utilizing our services, we very much appreciate it. Dr. Ditah, MD.
