Child Having Abdominal Pain, Passing Smelly Wind, Cough, Fever. Diagnosed Viral Infection. Correct Diagnosis?

My toddler (almost2) has bad abdominal pain and really smelly wind on and off during the day for 3 days. No loose bowels or vomiting . Her belly is soft and she s not constipated. She also has a cough and husky voice- no redness of throat . She had a fever for a couple of days which has now gone. Drs say viral infection, is there anything else this could be? She s only eating and drinking very little amounts.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I can understand your concern.

Monitor for the following in a child with cough.
1.     Rapid breathing.
2.     Chest indrawing while breathing.
3.     Abnormal noise while breathing.
4.     Nasal flaring
5.     Bluish discoloration of fingers (cyanosis)
6.     Irritability or lethargy
If your baby has any of these you should consult your doctor immediately

You need not worry regarding that wind that he is passing. Some times children eat very little after viral infections. But if there is no gradual improvement please contact your doctor for physical examination.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
