Hello, Thanks for posting your query, They are many causes of acute diarrhea in children and the most common is infection rotavirus. Bacteria, fungal, protozoal, parasitic infections could also be responsible for a child s diarrhea. Your child s pediatrician could review the child, run some few tests such as stool exam and decide on which appropriate treatment will be suitable for the child. I suggest you place the child on oral rehydration therapy immediately to prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalance which could become fatal if allowed to progress. The medications provided are good, but could only be effective for another microbial cause of the diarrhea. Hope this helps
