Child Having Red Color Growth Hanging Below Tongue? What Could It Be?

My 6 year old son has an almost a 1/2 inch red looking growth hanging under the bottom of his tongue . He bit his tongue and when he stuck it out we saw this growth. A few months ago we saw a smaller bump in the same spot but now it is longer and more red. What is this? I plan to call his pediatrician in the morning.
