Child Having Red Pea Sized Lump On Scalp, Rubbing Bacitracin Zinc Ointment, Oozing. Is It Fine?

My daughter has a red pea sized lump on her scalp that is red and tender to the touch. I have been rubbing Bacitracin Zinc Ointment on it for the past few days and now its oozing. Also earlier I saw that it had yellow crusts on it. Am I doing the right thing? Should I take her to the dermatologist?

Hi,

I can understand the concern for red pea sized lump on scalp.

I advise you to not pinch or pop the area otherwise these areas are very prone for getting secondary infection. You can continue to apply Bacitracin Zinc Ointment.

As there is oozing of fluid so an oral antibiotic would be necessary. You should preferably meet a dermatologist who can examine you physically and provide you the best treatment.

Do not try to even touch or pinch the area as can cause more aggravation of the problem.

Take care
