Child Is Complaining Of Stomach Pain. Has Small Lump Above Belly Button. Had Constipation. Prescribed Laxatives.
My four (five in two months) year old son is complaining of stomach pain. I noticed that he has a small lump just above the belly button. My son has had constipation issues ever since he was introduced solid foods. He has been prescribed laxatives since he was 9 months old. His bowls have become pretty regular with diet routine but this new lump has me very concerned. Any comments help. I will of course be seeking doctors opinion asap but not sure this is an emergancy? We just moved to a new area we are not familiar with and are in the process of establishing a new family doctor etc. Any comments help. Thank you.

Thanks for using HCM swelling above belly button could be as simple fatty tissue( lipoma) for which you need not have to worry. It could be a umbilical hernia, as you are also complaining of constipation, better to get USG abdomen done to check for it. As such this is not an emergency condition, better to consult a paediatric surgeon as soon as possible for management. continue your routine diet to your child. hope I have answered your query.
There could be various causes for that lump over the belly button. Most common cause for such a lump is hernia. A physical examination is required to identify the exact cause of that lump.
If your baby has constipation give him diet rich in fruits and vegetables which are rich in fiber. Give him plenty of water to drink. Encourage him to play outside and not sit in front of the computer or television. These measures should normally correct constipation. If the symptoms persists then laxative are required.
Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care.
