Child Passing Frequent, Dark Colored Stools Throughout The Day, Temporary Relief With Nor Metrogyl. Guidance?
Hello Doctor, my son is 8 yrs. Since the last 1 week he is passing frequent, formed but dark green coloured stools , approx 4-5 times a day. I had shown him to his doctor, to which he was prescribed, nor metrogyl; 5 ml 3 times for 4 days. First 2 days of the antibiotic , the frequency went down to 2 and colour changed to normal. But post 2 days, he is back with the same frequency. Pl guide.

please check the following
1-stool examination routine to look for parasites,altered blood.
2-see whether there is blood or mucus in the stool.A formed stool is unlikely to be from infection.
3-see whether there is any change in his feeds of late-
4-have you started giving iron syrup or tablets which can cause green coloured stools

Thank you for your query.
Was a stool examination ordered? If not it is advisable to get a stool examination done to know the cause of frequency of motion which is not responding to the medicines being given.
Another alternative could be to tweak the medicine being given. Instead of giving a combination formulation continue with only metronidazole for a total of 5 days and add lactobacillus preparation to change the bacterial flora of the intestines.
