Child Refuses To Drink From Bottle Or Eat Solid Food. How To Wean Child From Breast Milk?
Hi. My baby girl is 12 and half months now and has been breast feeding since birth. I have tried throughout her infancy to feed her with a bottle, but she has refused! Even when I put my breast milk in the bottle, she couldn t take it. She has also refused to eat any solid food, even home-made! I do not have any more supply, and I am depressed that she can t drink milk at this point. Of course she refused Formula, and never ate any baby food . I have tried all tricks, even left her to be hungry for a while in the hope that she will finally drink from the bottle, but not had any success. I have had daddy try to feed her and even some of my friends have tried to no avail All she wants to do is breast feed period! Please help me.
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
I can understand your frustration with the unsuccessful attempts in weaning your baby from breast feeding. Firstly, don't worry too much about this as it is not uncommon for some babies to be fussy and have difficulty in weaning. It does not indicate that you baby will never eat or drink other foods; it just means that the weaning process is getting delayed and difficult.
I would advise you not to lose heart, but keep trying different types and tastes of foods. Since she is over a year old now, you can very well try home-made foods - mashed vegetables, rice, bland soups, eggs, etc. Often it takes a while for babies to get accustomed to a new taste. But once they like something else, then they will soon get latched on to the other tastes. So, don't worry, it's just a matter of a little more time till your baby gets weaned.
Wish you all the best.
