Child Suffering From Hand Foot Mouth Disease, Ulcer In Mouth. Can Use Zytee Gel Or Paracetamol?

Hi Regards,

This is Dr Khare, I am also a paediatrician . My grand son is suffering from Hand foot mouth disease with an ULCER on the tounge, which is so painful that he is not accepting any edibles. Whether ZYTEE Gel can be used for local application. I am not preferring it because it contains coline salisylate for fear of Reye's syndrome. Child is 3 years old. Whether Paracetamol or Ibuprofen can be give Or ZYTEE Is safe ?

Hi Dr. Khare,

According to FDA drug safety communication over the OTC medications containing benzocaine, there is a warning on methhemoglobinemia although a rare condition.

Usually, in our practice, we use blue methylene swabs for mouth ulcers or lidocaine gel together with anti-inflammatory drugs such as paracetamol or ibuprofen (I usually prescribe paracetamol).

I always recommend oral hygiene together with oral spray.

Hope it helped!
